The Christmas Goldrush 8 festive gold nail polishes swatched

I came up with an idea a couple of weeks ago and that idea was to bring you a choice of a few festive gold nail polishes. This quickly got out of hand and soon I had 8 I wanted to feature. So for 2 weeks I have been walking around with each hands nails painted a different shade of gold. The things you do..

Well here it is! Some are real winners and keepers, some are a bit of a let down. Well, one in particular is a let down. I was let down by it last year and should have remembered before putting it on my nails again. Anyway, the Christmas Goldrush!

Let's kick off with the one I referred to above and we'll finish with my favourite, yes? Yes. Ok!

The following images / swatches have not been photoshopped and follow a 3 coat application.

Collection 2000 Hot Looks Shimmy Shake
There are 3 coats on here. I got fed up applying it to be honest which shows my tolerance levels have decreased since last year when I raved about this nail polish during this Budget Beauty Buy (should bring those back!) Basically it's a very budget friendly polish, this much is true but as you'll see clicking back through to the post last year it actually takes 5 coats to really have any kind of subtance. Cheap as chips. 5 coats though. That's 2 too many for me to bother with.

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails, Time to Shine
I think I picked this up over at Fragrance Direct a while ago and I'm impressed with it. It does what it says on the tin. It glitters nicely and gives good coverage.
Rimmel London Metal Rush, Gold Save The Queen
The metallic sheen you see in the bottle transfers incredibly well onto the nails. I'm not usually a huge fan of metallics but this rates quite highly in my collection.
Marks & Spencer, Gold
A pretty light gold shimmer polish, I've now worn this a few times.

Madame Milly
I don't have a name or a shade number for you it seems they don't need them for whatever reason. This polish came in a set of 4, picked up from Gordons Chemist and shown in this post. The set cost me just £2.50 so it's cheap and cheerful in my opinion. It's great coverage, wear is beyond what I'd expect for a polish of that budget range and it glitters and shimmers SO prettily.

 Barry M Nail Effects, Foil
I won this in a giveaway a year ago or so and it's a great nail polish. There is no shimmer with this whatsoever. A glorious matte foil polish.

Now we get to my top 2.

Runner up has to be....

 NYC Full Metal Jacket
This cheeky pup had me (and from what I can tell a few others too) confused initially. In the bottle you could mistake it for a metal shimmer silver... but it is a definite gold polish.

And it's gorgeous. The shimmer pigmant is fantastic for the price of the polish. I think it makes a great party nail polish.

The winner? It's got to be, hands down....

Sally Hansen, Gilded Lily
I was actually ridiculously excited to try this. When I saw it in the bottle I adored it and hoped it transferred to my nails exactly how it looked, rose gold almost with a hint of bronze.
It's simply amazing. It really is. You do need tinfoil to remove it, but it works grand and I haven't a fear of reapplying. In actual fact it's to be my Christmas Nail Polish. It's glittery, shimmery, rose gold / bronze. This was just 2 coats as opposed to every other polishes 3 AND I kept this one on both hands for 4 days before I realised I'd need to get a move on and test the others. It hadn't chipped and I really didn't want to take it off. WINNER!

Do you have a favourite gold polish?

  2. I really love the colours of the two Sally Hansen polishes. I think I only own one remotely golden polish right now. I think I may have to hunt those two out.

  3. I don't know which I like the most. I have the Barry M and I love the matte finish. I'm loving the sally hansen ones, but that wee one you got in the set in Gordon's is gorgeous too.

  7. I got the Collection nail polish last week as part of my Christmas present from one of the girls at work and I found 2 coats to be enough for an opaque finish. I did find that it chipped very easily.

  11. Over the weekend, I also painted my nails a little crazier than I usually do. It is my first attempt at doing somewhat edgy nail art at home (as opposed to having it done professionally), and I really love the way it came out! It's not too extreme, but still unique and cool! I love the color combo too. It's like wearing jewelry on your nails.
