What a let down

It's always a bit of a let down when you try 2 nail polishes in quick succession, the first one being beyond your expectations and then the second brings you back to earth with a bump.

The 2 polishes I'm talking about are from two different brands. One is Essie and the other is      Barry M
With that in mind, which one do you think will win out? I'd be interested to hear whether it's the brand you thought...

No point delaying any further. The first polish I tried was an Essie nail colour that I purchased from Fragrance Direct (as I think just about every beauty / fashion blogger has done at this stage).  I chose the shade LadyLike and I absolutely adore it.

I wasn't excited when it arrived as I thought it was going to be a little pinker but when I had it on I really did love it. My hands looked elegant. And the wear was great, 5 days without chipping and the only reason I removed it was to change the colour. So overall? Extremely impressed!

And then over to Barry M who, if you remember, I raved about after trying their Indigo polish. This was one of those totally spontaneous buys because I saw the bottle instore and it looked so pretty.

*sigh*

An almost velvety brown/grey with a purple shimmer. Looked great for Autumn shades.

I've taken a few pictures for you as admittedly it does look different in changing lights (none of these photos are filtered or photoshopped) however it definitely, without doubt, does not look like it does in it's sleek glass bottle.

As you can hopefully see, the bottle genuinely does look as if the polish will hold a fair amount of purple sheen. Well, it really doesn't. It really doesn't. Not for me anyway. So instead of the lovely purpley glimmer I got this..

Remember none of these are filtered. The difference? I tilted the pot in a slightly different direction. However when I was instore every direction showed me the first colour. I honestly believed that it'd be more a purple shade, alas it was not to be.

So if you'd like to try it yourself the shade is Dusky Mauve and I guess it is. However if you pick it up instore per chance and think ''oooo that looks lovely and shimmery'' STOP! It's not. No matter how many coats you apply.

Ah well. I'll just have to try more nail colours to compensate for my disappointment. Luckily enough I've maybe got some more Essie coming this week :D A solid brand and great wee polish I'm happy to be a returning customer. Though I should say I'm not quite ready to give up on Barry M just yet. Their Indigo would lead me to believe they have more to offer than the disappointing Dusky Mauve.

Have you tried either of these polishes? Did they look different for you?

  1. That Essie is gorgeous. I was completely under whelmed by Dusky Mauve too but have you tried it with a rainbow top coat? It comes to life!

    1. LOL yes I remember your review. I wore it for 5 days and there was 1 tiny chip on the side of my thumb, without a top coat. The Barry M one however, I put on last night and it's chipped badly already. I've ordered another Essie so I'm hoping it wasn't just a one off.

    1. It's such a shame isn't it? If it DID look like it does in the bottle it'd be amazing!
