So Liz Jones is at it again. I'm convinced the woman can't help herself. What could have been a great article pointing out our obsession with enhancements came across twisted and nasty. Taking aim at a ''celebrity'' who dared go make up free on Twitter.
The article itself:
Prompted by Holly posting the following picture on Twitter
Reading the article through it seems nothing but a string of bitter remarks by Ms Jones.
It shocks me in this day and age that girl vs girl hate is still so rife. Bitches be bitching. And I just don't get it. It's unnecessary, it's hateful and it's also extremely pathetic.
Liz Jones has been given a much sought after position in the media and this is how she uses this platform? To rage against pretty women? I would really love to know why this is tolerated. By us! The general public. We seem to just put up with it. I am at a loss as to why we should continue!
This was initially going to be a full scale attack on Liz Jones as I've simply had enough of her cretinous ways and her abuse of journalism BUT that would make me as bad as her. Only without the sheer amount of pageviews her name pulls in *curses* lol
At the end of the day I wish her no harm but I do not think she is intelligent enough (from what I've seen regarding her body of work) to be in the job she is in.
I would also point out to Ms Liz Jones that troweling on makeup is NEVER a good look. Makeup is used to ENHANCE natural features. Not change them completely. If you are in a position where you do change your face completely by the sheer amount of paint you plaster on your face then you are simply revealing nothing but YOUR insecurities Ms Jones.
I have frequently posted pictures both on here and Twitter with no make up on. I've seen lots of others do so as well. To think girls! This means we are setting feminism right back.... well, according to Liz Jones anyway.
Apparently I need to wear heavy makeup... Ms Jones informed me today if I don't accept that then I'm denouncing my womanhood...
This is all I have to say to you Liz Jones
Now, I've not posted this picture to remark at my looks, good god no! Holly is a stunning and pretty girl, enhancements or not. I'm just me. But I sure as hell am not setting feminism back in any way. Thanks Liz.
Does this sound like lazy journalism to you? It sure does to me! It annoys me that Liz may
have had a point regarding society's need to enhance everything these
days. But that point was quickly lost due to a seemenly bitter and
barbed article.
Shame on you Liz Jones.
Shame on me for reading.
I'll not make that mistake again I can assure you.
Sera
xo

You and holly both look shit hot with no slap on!!
ReplyDeleteTa lol x
DeleteIf you Copied & Pasted the article's text I could comment on it; I am not following that link because I don't want to fall into their trap of churning up right-minded folks denunciation on Twitter etc, and gaining millions of hits and plenty of £ as a result. I am sure all you said is on the money, though, and as a fellow makeupless ginga - power to you!
ReplyDeleteFair play, I wish I hadn't clicked in to be fair lol xx
DeleteThis Liz Jones woman is a total idiot! What poor journalism, this has prompted me to write a blog post now (will link back to yours!) You look stunning without makeup by the way! x
ReplyDeletewww.shelovesoutfits.co.uk
Just finished reading your post! Nice one!! x
DeleteSensible , elegante y creativo blog.Te sigo y te invito a seguir el mío.Saludos poéticos.
ReplyDeleteI've just written the article is just absurd! It's true: it was just another way to be a bitch to a pretty girl and Liz Jones just used journalism to do it I can't believe! To be honest Holly Willoughby looked just as many of my pretty friends without make up! And in the photo that Liz posted of herself she seemed to have done anything to look awful (I think there was no need to also show dirty/messy hair)!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! x
My response! http://www.shelovesoutfits.co.uk/2012/06/liz-jones-bare-faced-cheek.html
ReplyDeleteI'm off to read the article now, but both you and the Willobooby look great with or without makeup, personally I can take or leave makeup and happily pop out with none on, on a regular basis. I don't see the problem. X
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous.Totally agree with everything you say. The women on women hate needs to stop! :) x
ReplyDeleteGreat Post! Just read the article and google search blogs to see peoples thoughts on it!. I dont wear makeup and when i do is only a bit of tinted moistener, mascara and lip gloss. I look no better with makeup than without and im not exactly beautiful, so thats why i dont bother as it seems alot of effort for little benefit.
ReplyDeleteWhich is what confused me about Liz, she goes though all these cosmetic procedures and for what? she looks no better unless wearing makeup, seems silly. Id rather look gorgeous makeup free than pay all that money on surgerys and face peels which only work for you if you have a shops worth of makeup on your face everyday.
My friend who is in her 50s has had a few skin laser treatments and botox and looks amazing without makeup on, unlike liz. She wears dark makeup like Liz does too but without it she looks great, dont understand why she wears makeup and she wont listen to me and stop wearing it or wear more natural looking makeup. i dont get some people haha!
hmm maybe in some crazy way Liz was trying to say that to her makeup fills the stereotype of girly womanly things like cooking and playing with dolls and being a mother etc? maybe thats what she means by being anti feminist? but i highly doubt it. that would mean shed have to give up her precious suits that she did a article about a few weeks ago in favor of 100s of dresses as women obviously cant wear pants, as its anti feminine and that would be anti feminist right?.....(but this isn't the dark ages).
Liz wrote a similar article only a few years ago she about women wearing make up to work, where she says women who refuse to wear make up to work are "arrogant, lazy or deluded" or all 3. Seriously? wtf? the article was written about in this blog post:
http://thegrindstone.com/career-management/if-you-dont-wear-make-up-to-work-you-just-might-be-an-arrogant-moaning-minnie/
anyways enough time wasted on that, have a good one! btw love your ginger hair! :)
I had the misfortune to the her article this morning and the whole thing is utter shite. She has written it to provoke a reaction. I see nothing wrong with posting a natural photo (enhanced or not), I would too today if I was not bed ridden with a chest infection (no one needs to see that!). I wanna say thank you for your lovely eloquent reply, it was well said. Also, you look gorgeous in your photo.

OMG OMG OMG OMG i know i just posted on here but you have to read this article i just found, some study shows "make up is not optional" and the picture has a photo showing what the old feminists look like and what feminists of today look like (Liz would love that HAHA) you can read the article here: http://blog.iblamethepatriarchy.com/2011/10/14/new-study-shows-makeup-is-not-optional/
ReplyDeleteFlippin fantastic post Sera!! I haven't read the article, tbh my blood pressure can no longer tolerate Liz Jones, she is just,,, no words are enough. I think your points are well made and bloody hilarious. I can't believe she gets paid for being nothing more than a high profiled troll, her articles are only ever written to infuriate and cause controversy, no other substance or sense incorporated. You rock, and are so pretty btw :) x
ReplyDeleteSera, great post. I feel sorry for Liz - saw her on This Morning yesterday and didn't realise she had Anorexia from the age of 11. She teared up when she admitted that she cannot look in the mirror at herself - she cannot bear her appearance. She said when having makeup done for TV, she turns away from the mirror. That is so sad. For that reason, I don't think she is in the right frame of mind to be writing an article like this. It's a typical DM Provoke & anger article and I think they are exploiting her by giving her a voice. A bit like how they exploited Samantha Brick. They encourage them to troll and pay them for it. And you know what, it works because we are talking about it! Ching Ching to the DM! x
ReplyDeleteLiz Jones always makes my hackles rise, and the worst thing is that it's so obvious that she doesn't have a very positive opinion of herself so it's distressing how often she likes to try and criticise others, I really hope she can find a bit of peace one day and stop taking her own insecurities out on everyone else! x
ReplyDeleteFantastic comments guys and whereas yes I have complete sympathy for Liz Jones' life struggles I simply cannot condone or be on board with the fact she is just allowed to run free with a pen and paper. This should not be the way our media operates. Encouraging hate and spite. Good luck to her, I've a feeling she's going to need it.
ReplyDeleteThank you all so very very much for all your comments today I've had such a great time reading them all!!!
xx
Liz Jones, whether you agree with her or not, does A job very well - look at how this article is being discussed....
ReplyDeleteThis is such a brilliant post! I agree with everything you've said, you're so right. I don't even understand the article, it just makes no sense. The only reason I can think she wrote it is for attention, she seems to love causing controversy.
ReplyDeleteYou look gorge by the way! xxx
This woman makes my blood boil - I'm not even going to read her initial piece. Great post Sera xo
ReplyDeleteHaven't read that article, don't intend to either, that woman has an awful lot of issues and should not be allowed write articles on body image imho.
ReplyDeleteGreat post x
Just seen this post now- fab! Liz Jones is awful and I think Gem is right the Daily Mail exploit her as a troll to increase their figures.
ReplyDeleteTry my best to not open any Daily Mail articles.
Well done darling - and of course you look great!
X
You look amazing without any make up! She is an awful pain in the ass really isn't she?
