Stay don't Stray... Benefit do it again..

Back when I posted about my March Birchbox and it's contents, I said (regarding one product in particular) that I promised to keep an open mind despite having issues with the brand's products in the past (read more on my Fake Up experience here). I thoroughly believe I kept that promise.

It was with an open mind and a hopeful attitude that I applied Stay Don't Stray from Benefit today. I waited and allowed the primer to set (I waited extra long just to be sure!).

First and foremost, yet again, Benefit have kept this product to just 2 shades. The Light/Medium was too dark for me. However, even at this point, I carried on and simply applied a little darker shadow than usual and swept a little bronzer about my face. It was passable.

4 hours later and what had happened. Can anyone guess?

My eyeshadow was noticeably lighter meaning it had indeed strayed. Not just that, horror of horrors, my liquid liner had transferred. A liquid liner that doesn't usually transfer, even when I wear absolutely no primer.

The absolute kicker? This product is priced at £20.50. Awful chunk of cash for something that doesn't work all that well.

Admittedly, I was surprised. I figured you couldn't go far wrong with a primer. Turns out I was wrong. I keep believing that one day I'll come across a Benefit product that I believe is worth the money. Unfortunately, this was not that occasion.

Have you tried Stay don't Stray yet? Will you bother?

  1. Thank you for the honest review, I'm still skeptical of Benefit. I am a huge fan of their high beam and their They're Real mascara but I do struggle to cough up full whack for them, they're usually picked up when stuck to the front of a glossy mag...

    1. Always! You're right on the button. I only ever grab bits when they're mag freebies. Not worth it otherwise imo x

  2. Totally agree with this! I got the primer in one of their gift sets. The only product from benefit I have ever liked is their Big Beautiful Eyeshadow set. I refuse to buy their products anymore as they are completely aimed at selling gimmicky packaging, without providing a good product! Way to expensive to be only buying into the packaging! Complete nonsense! x

    1. I have a naturals palette which is brilliant but when I looked up the price, I balked. No way are their products worth the pricetags. They've a cheek to be honest. They're charging luxury prices for sub standard make up. Mind you, I'm fully prepared to eat my hat should I find a product of theirs that proves me wrong! x

  3. I've only ever used two products by Benefit both of which i was introduced to by a very dear friend. Bad Gal mascara and Maybe Baby perfume. i absolutely love both of them but, now that I'm a stay at home Mummy, can't justify the price tag for the mascara!

    1. I'm very near that point myself. I've not spent money on them in a long time and that's not about to change any time soon.

  6. This was the very first Benefit product I'd tried. I was excited about it, but ended up disappointed. My eyeshadow had strayed in about two hours! Apparently, they had changed the formula and packaging (it was better before, according to some comments I've read). However, I quite like their Eye Bright Pencil. Might have a go with other products in future, but only if I can test before buying.

I like the idea of the Eye Bright pencil and might have a look around at other brands x

  7. I'm not a big fan of Benefit either. I only like their "Hi-Brow" kit & their highlighter pencil. Way over priced though!

    1. I do absolutely nothing with my brows you see though am intrigued by the highlighter pencil. The prices really are unjustifiable I think!

  8. I've never tried it for eyeshadow primer, just for concealer primer and I quite like it for concealer primer. Saying that I often actually just use it as a concealer as it covers well enough on its own! x
