Mixing Trends

Fashion and trends are all about finding what works for you. For instance I'd look ridiculous trussed up in print leggings and a baseball cap or in a peplum top and disco pants. I don't think trends are based on us gals with curves. With some careful mixing and matching though you can really feel quite free to dip your toes into Gothic or Heritage or any other A/W12 trend that takes your fancy.
It's worth bearing in mind that mixing old with new helps to make the transition between seasons a lot easier on the purse strings and I think this year, more so than most, the style setters have allowed us wiggle room with a lot of underlying trends sticking it out into A/W.

The look I wanted to go for today was one of my fantastical ones. Fantastical in the sense that it's pure fantasy. Akin to the Date night that never happens only this I would maybe wear to an A/W style soiree or show of some dramatic description.

Hopefully paying homage to a few trends along the way.

Asos Peplum Top in Textured Wool (Thanks to Quirky Weddings for being the best bosses in the world for my great gift voucher!)
Wet Look Pencil/Wiggle Skirt from Room31

I made a veer towards my teenage gothic style with a modern twist. I teamed the Asos Wool Peplum Top with the Pencil Skirt as I knew trousers would not be my friend in this scenario though I'll be experimenting with it more. This top is great for both Autumn and Winter in my mind. It will be great when it gets colder and easily layered which is a win.

The Wet Look Pencil Skirt plays to the gothic trend really very nicely indeed. With a slight sheen and a corsetted waistband (which you can see here) it has great versatility.

I added these amazing Jonathan Aston Cabaret Tights which were sent out by Tightsplease.co.uk

The tights are amazing, I had worried as I know I don't do pattern too well but these were easy worn and I love the pattern so much, a good alternative to the full on gothic baroque gold and black print leggings ;) A nice pop of colour with footwear rounds this look off well in my opinion though black heels or oxblood boots would work just as well I'm sure. Tightsplease have a huge amount of stock online with everything from legwarmers (yes please!) to Celebrity fashion tights and free shipping!
(My poor boots! The hazards! Luckily the purple chelsea boots were an Ebay find for next to nothing and I have big plans for those heels so worry not friends, tis not the end for these beauties.)

I thought whilst I was experimenting with style I'd also experiment with this season's dark lipstick trend. A lot of us loved Cheryl Coles' lipstick on Saturday night and a lot of us didn't like it so much but I thought I'd give it a go, using Revlon's Red Wine Not I braved The Dark Lip...

Do bear in mind I'm really not very well at the moment so I'm giving off quite the casper like complexion :S I'm usually quite pale anyway but with health problems it would seem my skin is trying it's best to become translucent. Maybe, for the first time in my life, it's time to break out the bronzer.

All that aside could I possibly for one moment bring your attention to the stunner adorning my neck?

This Armani Bib Necklace is the first piece of designer fashion I own. It is beyond pretty, made up of stunning beaded squares, material squares and gemstone squares it nestles so well on plain staple tops. I'm delighted to be showing it here for the first time! Thank you Carol for arranging such a momentous gift for me. You'll never know what it means. I shall treasure it always. I'm not lying... as soon as we finished taking these pictures I wrapped it back up in tissue paper and put it back in a box.

In one post I've managed to team Ebay, Room31's £5 bargain skirt, Asos and Armani to create a look that actually had me excited about A/W trends.

Much fun!

Have you tried any of this seasons trends yet? Dog tooth perhaps?

  2. Ah I like your peplum! I'm a bit nervous that the high neck will just make my bosoms look enormous.

I'm a fan of houndstooth. I ALMOST bought skinny jeans with large black & white houndstooth print. And then realised I'm not that brave...

    1. Thanks Sara, yeah it's a bit unforgiving in the bosom department, any bigger and I think there'd be a risk of the peplum riding up but I reckon you should at least go try one on, you've such a great figure. And on that note BE BRAVE they sound delicious!
